It is normal for adults to have sexual desires and to undergo sexual activities especially if they already have a partner in life and are building their own family. Yet as age progresses, hormonal issues and other external factors give rise to problems such as sexual dysfunction or low sexual desire.

When we talk about sexual dysfunction, it refers to any physical or psychological problem that prevents men and women to achieve some sexual satisfaction. In men, sexual dysfunction means having difficulties in engaging in sexual intercourse. This often affects men of all ages, but more particularly in older men.

The usual problems that are connected with sexual dysfunction include ejaculation orders such as premature ejaculation, retrograde ejaculation (into the bladder), anejaculation (the inability to ejaculate); erectile dysfunction, and inhibited sexual desire. There is still hope though, the issues mentioned can often be corrected by resolving the underlying cause.

In order to have a better understanding of the different causes of sexual dysfunction in males, let’s discuss each of the factors that give rise to the common issues about sex:

Exposure to Stress – it is one of the most common causes of sexual dysfunction wherein constant exposure to stress leads to more cortisol hormone released and stricture or narrowing of arteries that block the release of other essential hormones. When people experience sexual trauma in the past, it may lead to an unresolved feeling of fear that will eventually cause psychological problems.

Having A Bad Night vs Sleep Disorders – while we know that it is normal to not be in the mood at times when your problems become more frequent that it takes a toll on your sexual life, you are already having a disorder. It is good to know the difference between a bad night and a disorder because you need to have the right measures to combat your sexual problems.

Having a little or no interest in sexual relations is defined as a desire disorder.

When you are emotionally in the mood but your body does not feel like it, you are having an arousal disorder.

Having pain during intercourse is called pain disorder.

A Drop on Your Libido – for men having low levels of testosterone, this can lead to a loss of libido or reduction of sexual desire. Since testosterone maintains sexual drive, sperm production, muscle, hair, and bone; having lesser levels of testosterone in your body can affect your body and mood. Reduced sexual desire may also be due tMen’s Nutrition: Sexual Dysfunction Causes and Foods for Better Sexual Healtho depression, anxiety, or relationship problems. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and certain medications may also contribute to low libido.

Erectile Dysfunction in Men – another type of sexual dysfunction occurs when a man cannot get or maintain an erection all ready for sexual intercourse. This may occur due to a problem with blood flow, a nerve disorder, an injury to the penis, psychological problems such as anxiety or depression, relationship issues, chronic illness, or some medications.

Having Ejaculation Disorders – Premature ejaculation is an episode where ejaculation happens immediately after penetration. Often a consequence of performance anxiety, it may be due to other psychological stressors, sexual inhibitors, nerve damage, spinal cord damage, and certain medications.
